Balli Durga Prasad Rao was an Indian politician. He was known for serving the people of Andhra Pradesh, a state in India. He worked in both the state government and the national government.
His Political Journey
Balli Durga Prasad Rao started his political career early. He became a Member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) for the Gudur area in Andhra Pradesh. An MLA is someone elected by people to represent them in the state's law-making body.
He served as an MLA for four different terms:
- From 1985 to 1989
- From 1994 to 1999
- From 1999 to 2004
- From 2009 to 2014
He became an MLA when he was just 28 years old. This shows he was very dedicated to public service from a young age.
Serving as a Minister
From 1996 to 1998, Balli Durga Prasad Rao also served as the Minister for Primary Education. This meant he was in charge of making decisions about schools and education for young children in the state. He also worked as a member of the Public Accounts Committee (PAC) in Andhra Pradesh from 2009 to 2014. The PAC looks at how the government spends money.
Becoming a Member of Parliament

His Passing
Sadly, Balli Durga Prasad Rao passed away on 16 September 2020. He had been sick with COVID-19 during the COVID-19 pandemic in India. He was hospitalized in Chennai and died after having a heart attack.
His Family's Legacy
His son, Balli Kalyanachakravarthy, has also followed in his footsteps. In 2021, his son was elected to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Council. This is another important part of the state's government.
