Ballon (called Balana in Irish) is a friendly village, civil parish, and townland in County Carlow, Ireland. It is located on the N80 road, not far from Carlow town. Ballon is home to about 800 people, according to the 2022 census.

Community Spirit and Local Services
A special shop called "Siopa Glas" on Main Street helps the village. The money it earns goes back into the community. It supports the local school garden and helps different charities.
Ballon has its own primary school, called Ballon National School. There is also a community hall right on the main street. This hall was updated in 2013, making it a modern place for events.
Ballon's Green Efforts: Tidy Towns
The village takes part in the Tidy Towns competition. This is a national contest in Ireland where towns compete to be the cleanest and most attractive. Bus Services
Since 2015, Bus Éireann route 132 serves Ballon several times a day. You can take this bus to Dublin by going through Tullow and Tallaght. If you go the other way, the bus travels to Kildavin and Bunclody. There are also other local bus services, like Ring a Link and Wexford Local Link buses, that stop in the village.

Gaelic Games in Ballon
Ballon is home to two Gaelic Athletic Association (GAA) clubs. The Ballon GAA club plays in the Carlow Junior Football Championship. There is also St Martins GAA club, which is for younger players. It welcomes boys and girls from under-6 up to under-17.
Football Clubs
For football (soccer) fans, Ballon has Burrin Celtic. This team plays in the Carlow & District Football League. Another team, A Championship side F.C. Carlow, used to play at Burrin Celtic's home ground, which is called The Valley on Fenagh Road.
Exploring Ballon Hill
Just outside the village, you'll find Ballon Hill. Even though it's only about 137 metres (450 feet) above sea level, it offers great views. From the top, you can look out over the lower lands around it. The hill is made mostly of granite rock, with a layer of limestone covering it.
