The Bamberg State Library (German: Staatsbibliothek Bamberg) is a special library in Bamberg, Germany. It was started in 1803. The library is run by Bavaria, which is a state in Germany.

What You Can Find There: Amazing Collections

The Bamberg State Library holds many interesting things. It has a huge collection of books and old writings.

Books and Manuscripts: A Look Back in Time

The library has about 545,000 books. Some of these books are very old, going back to the Middle Ages.

It also has about 6,350 manuscripts. Manuscripts are books or documents that were written by hand. One very famous manuscript is the Bamberg Apocalypse. This book is from the 11th century. It is a richly illuminated manuscript, which means it has beautiful pictures and decorations drawn by hand.

Special Recognition: Memory of the World

The Bamberg Apocalypse and two other manuscripts from the library are very important. They are part of UNESCO's Memory of the World register. This means they are recognized as important parts of human history and culture.

Some of the oldest manuscripts in the library were brought to Bamberg by Henry II. He was a powerful ruler of the Holy Roman Empire.

Early Printed Books: Incunabula

The library also has 3,550 very early printed books. These books were made using a printing press before the year 1501 in Europe. They are called incunabula. This word comes from a Latin word meaning "in the cradle," because printing was still very new then.
