Bamberg Symphony Orchestra facts for kids
The Bamberger Symphoniker (which means Bamberg Symphony Orchestra) is a very famous orchestra from the city of Bamberg, Germany. It was started in 1946. Most of the musicians who formed the orchestra were Germans who had to leave Czechoslovakia after World War II. Many of them used to play in the German Philharmonic Orchestra of Prague.
The Bamberger Symphoniker has a big, modern concert hall in Bamberg. It opened in 1993. They perform many concerts there. But they also travel a lot, performing all over the world. Their main conductor is Jonathan Nott, who is an English conductor. Every three years, the orchestra holds a special competition called the "Gustav Mahler Conducting Prize." This competition helps young conductors show their talent. It first happened in 2004.
