Bangor is a small city located in Van Buren County, in the state of Michigan, United States. In 2020, about 2,016 people lived there. Bangor started as a town in 1854. It is in the northeast part of Bangor Township, but it has its own separate government.

Schools in Bangor
The Bangor Public Schools system has several schools. These include one elementary school for grades K-4. There is also Bangor Middle School for grades 5-8. Finally, Bangor High School serves students in grades 9-12. The school district also has a building for adult education. The sports teams at Bangor High School are called the Bangor Vikings. They compete in the Southwest 10 Conference.
Trinity Lutheran School is another school in Bangor. It is a Christian school that follows the teachings of the Wisconsin Evangelical Lutheran Synod.
Famous People from Bangor
Many interesting people have connections to Bangor:
- Grover C. Dillman (1889–1979) was born in Bangor. He was an engineer and served as Michigan's state highway commissioner.
- Peter Gent (1942–2011) was born and died in Bangor. He was a wide receiver for the Dallas Cowboys football team. He also wrote a famous book called North Dallas Forty. He helped Bangor High School win a state basketball championship in 1960.
- Hall Overton (1920–1972) was born in Bangor. He was a talented composer, jazz pianist, and music teacher.
- Thelma Terry (1901–1966) was born in Bangor. She was a famous bandleader and bassist. Her band was known as Thelma Terry and Her Playboys.
Getting Around Bangor
You can travel to and from Bangor by train. Amtrak train service is available at the Bangor depot. The train that stops here is called the Pere Marquette. For local travel, Van Buren Public Transit provides bus service.
