What's the Story of Baptistown?
Baptistown got its name from two Baptist churches. These churches were started by the very first people who settled here.
Early Days of the Community
The community has had its own post office for a long time. It first opened on May 1, 1822. This helped people send and receive letters.
In 1882, about 250 people lived in Baptistown. It was known as a busy place for farming. The area had good local businesses too.
Later, in 1937, Baptistown had a one-room school. This is where many children learned their lessons.
Powering Up with Solar Energy
Did you know Baptistown helps make clean energy? There's a big project called Frenchtown Solar nearby. It uses the sun's power to create electricity.
How Solar Farms Work
Frenchtown Solar has three large areas of solar panels. These are often called solar farms. They cover about 110 acres (45 ha) of land.
There are 68,500 solar panels in total. These panels can produce 20.1 megawatts of power. That's a lot of clean energy!
Two of these solar farms are right outside Baptistown. You can see them along Route 12. The third and largest one is a bit further south. It is located off County Route 519.
