Early Life and Beginnings

Barbara Kingsbury was born in Bluefields, Nicaragua. Her mother, Florencia Carrera, was Nicaraguan. Her father, Louis Kingsbury, was an American who worked for the US embassy.

When she was a child, Barbara moved to the United States. She lived with her father. At age 15, she moved to New York to pursue her dreams.

Starting a Career in Modeling

Barbara Kingsbury began her modeling career at 17. She joined the Eileen Ford agency. At this time, she changed her last name to Carrera, using her mother's maiden name.

Her first movie role was in Puzzle of a Downfall Child (1970). In this film, she played a fashion model. Barbara also appeared in various magazines. These included Vogue, Paris Match, and Harper's Bazaar.
