How Line 5 Grew Over Time
The subway line you see today wasn't built all at once! It grew step by step over many years. Here's how it happened:
- 1959: The first part of the line opened between Sagrera and Meridiana. Back then, it was actually called Line 2.
- 1967: Another section opened, connecting Vilapicina to Horta. This was also part of the old Line 2.
- 1969: A new section opened from Collblanc to Diagonal/Provença.
- 1970: The section from Diagonal/Provença to Sagrera-Meridiana was completed. At this point, the old Line 2 became part of Line 5, making it one longer line.
- 1973: The line was extended from Collblanc to Pubilla Cases.
- 1976: It grew again, from Pubilla Cases to Sant Ildefons.
- 1983: The final extension for a while opened, connecting Sant Ildefons to Cornellà.
