Line 9 (or Línia 9 in Catalan) is one of the newest subway lines in Barcelona. It's still being built, but some parts are already open! The first five stations opened on December 13, 2009, all in Santa Coloma de Gramenet. This huge project aims to create a long subway line with two main branches. It will connect many important areas around Barcelona, including Barcelona city itself, Santa Coloma de Gramenet, Badalona, l'Hospitalet de Llobregat, and El Prat de Llobregat. The company that runs the Barcelona Metro, TMB, operates this line. They have actually split this big project into two lines: Line 9 and Line 10.

Exploring Barcelona's Line 9 Metro

Line 9 is a very long and modern subway line in Barcelona. It's special because it's mostly built very deep underground, which means it uses special elevators to get down to the platforms. It's designed to connect many different towns and important places around the city.

What is Line 9?

Line 9 is a major subway project that will eventually be one of the longest automatic metro lines in Europe! This means the trains can run by themselves without a driver. The line is designed to help people travel easily between different parts of the metropolitan area of Barcelona, especially to places like the airport and big business areas.

How Line 9 is Built

Building Line 9 is a huge engineering challenge. Much of the line is built using large tunnel boring machines that dig deep underground. Because it's so deep, many stations have multiple levels of platforms and long escalators or special elevators to get passengers down to the trains.

The Different Sections of Line 9

Line 9 is planned to have many stations across different areas. Remember, many of these stations are still being built! The line is divided into a few main sections:

El Prat Area Stations

This part of Line 9 connects to the Barcelona International Airport and other important areas in El Prat de Llobregat. It's super helpful for travelers!

  • Aeroport-T1 (at Barcelona International Airport)
  • Aeroport-T2 (also at Barcelona International Airport)
  • El Prat
  • Europa-Fira (connects to L8)

  • Collblanc (connects to L5)
  • Zona Universitària (connects to L3)
  • Sarrià (connects to L6)
  • Lesseps (connects to L3)
  • Guinardó (connects to L4)
  • Sagrera-Meridiana (connects to L1 and L4)

Besòs Area Stations

This section of Line 9 serves the northern parts of the metropolitan area, including Santa Coloma de Gramenet and Badalona.
