Instead, it's part of the larger county. Barker is about seventeen miles west of downtown Houston, a very large city in Texas.

A Look Back in Time

The community of Barker began to grow because of the Missouri–Kansas–Texas Railroad. This railroad built its tracks through the area in 1895. The community was named after Ed Barker, who was a contractor working on the railroad.

The first post office in Barker opened in 1898, which helped the community connect with other places. At first, Barker was mostly a farming area. People grew crops and raised animals. However, over time, the area has changed a lot. Today, Barker is mainly a place where people live, with many homes and neighborhoods.
