The barred cuckooshrike is a fascinating bird known for its striking looks and its other name, the yellow-eyed cuckooshrike. It belongs to a bird family called Campephagidae, which includes cuckooshrikes and trillers. You can find these birds living in places like eastern Australia, Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and the Solomon Islands.

About the Barred Cuckooshrike

These birds get their name from the dark stripes, or "bars," on their chests and bellies. They also have bright yellow eyes that really stand out! Barred cuckooshrikes are known for their quiet movements as they search for food among the trees. They are usually found in forests and woodlands.

Where Do They Live?

Barred cuckooshrikes live in several different parts of the world. They are found across eastern Australia, from the top of the Cape York Peninsula down to New South Wales. You can also spot them in Indonesia, Papua New Guinea, and many of the Solomon Islands. These birds like places with lots of trees, like rainforests and wet woodlands.

Different Types of Barred Cuckooshrikes

Just like people can have different looks depending on where they come from, birds can too! Scientists have found that barred cuckooshrikes living in different areas can have slight differences. These are called "subspecies." For example, some live in the mountains of New Guinea, while others are found on specific islands like New Ireland or Guadalcanal. Even though they look a bit different, they are all still barred cuckooshrikes.
