Barry James Douglas (born on 4 September 1989) is a Scottish professional footballer. He plays as a left-back or left wing-back.
Barry Douglas started his career in Scotland with Queen's Park and Dundee United. In 2013, he moved to Poland to play for Lech Poznań, where he helped them win the 2014–15 Ekstraklasa league title. Later, he played for Konyaspor in Turkey. In 2017, he joined Wolverhampton Wanderers in England. He had a great season with Wolves, winning the 2017–18 EFL Championship and playing for his country, Scotland, for the first time. In July 2018, he joined Leeds United and won the 2019–20 EFL Championship with them. He returned to Lech Poznań in 2021 and won another league title. As of 2025, he plays for St Johnstone.

Club Career Highlights
Starting at Queen's Park
Barry Douglas was born in Glasgow, Scotland. He grew up in the Pollok area of the city. He played for Livingston's youth teams. However, he was released at age sixteen because coaches thought he was "too small." After a year away from football, he joined Queen's Park in 2008.
He made his first senior appearance in August 2008. He became a regular player for Queen's Park. This club was amateur, meaning players played part-time. Barry also worked as a refrigeration engineer during this time. Even though Queen's Park was relegated in 2009, Barry continued to play well. He scored nine goals from his left-back position in the 2009–10 season. He was the top scorer for Queen's Park that season.
Moving to Dundee United
On 20 June 2010, Barry Douglas signed a professional contract. He joined Scottish Premier League club Dundee United. He made his debut in August 2010 as a substitute. He played three seasons at Dundee United. Interestingly, the player who later replaced him at Dundee United, Andrew Robertson, also came from Queen's Park.
Success with Lech Poznań
On 28 May 2013, Barry Douglas signed a two-year deal with Polish club Lech Poznań. He made his debut on 29 September 2013. His first goal for the club came on 3 August 2014 from a free-kick. He scored more free-kicks in March 2015.
He played 27 games as Lech Poznań won the Polish league championship in 2014–15. They also won the Super Cup. He scored another free-kick in a UEFA Champions League qualification game in July 2015. He played 75 games for the club in total, scoring 5 goals.
Time at Konyaspor
Barry Douglas moved to Turkish team Konyaspor in January 2016. He played his first league match in February 2016. With Konyaspor, Barry reached the 2016–17 Turkish Cup final. His team won the final after a penalty shootout. He played 45 games for Konyaspor. This included four games in the 2016–17 UEFA Europa League.
Winning the League with Wolves
On 1 July 2017, Barry Douglas joined English Championship club Wolverhampton Wanderers. He made his debut on 5 August 2017. He scored his first goal for Wolves a week later. On 22 November 2017, he scored a great long-range free-kick against Leeds United.
Barry Douglas helped Wolves win the 2017–18 EFL Championship league title. He scored five goals and made 14 assists from his left-back position. His 14 assists meant he was one of the top assisters in the league.
Joining Leeds United
First Season at Leeds (2018–19)
On 28 July 2018, Leeds United signed Barry Douglas. He was given the number 3 shirt. He made his debut on 5 August 2018 and provided an assist in a 3–1 win. Barry faced some injury problems in early 2019. On 30 March, he played through a serious knee injury because his team had no more substitutes. This injury meant he missed the rest of the season.
During the 2018–19 season, Barry played 27 games and made 5 assists. Leeds finished third in the league. They lost in the playoff semi-finals.
Promotion to the Premier League (2019–20)
After three months out, Barry returned from his injury in July 2019. He started the season as Leeds' first-choice left-back. However, more injuries meant he sometimes lost his place in the team.
The English football season was paused in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. When the season restarted in June, Barry and Leeds earned promotion to the Premier League. They also became the EFL Championship Champions for the 2019–20 season.
Loan to Blackburn Rovers (2020–21)
Barry's first start of the 2020–21 season for Leeds was in the EFL Cup. On 16 October 2020, he was loaned to Championship club Blackburn Rovers. He stayed there until the end of the season. In May 2021, he left Leeds when his contract ended.
Return to Lech Poznań
On 2 July 2021, Barry Douglas went back to Poland. He signed a two-year contract with Lech Poznań. In his first season back, he played 15 league games. He helped the club win his second Polish league title. In May 2023, he extended his contract for another year. He left the club in 2024 when his contract finished.
Playing for St Johnstone
On 21 October 2024, Barry Douglas returned to Scotland. He joined St Johnstone on a contract until the end of the season.
International Career
Barry Douglas was chosen to play for the Scotland national team in March 2018. He made his first international appearance on 27 March. He came on as a substitute in a 1–0 win against Hungary.
