The Bartlettia is a type of flowering plant. It belongs to the daisy family, called Asteraceae. There is only one known species in this group, and it's called Bartlettia scaposa. People often call it the Bartlett daisy. You can find this plant growing naturally in Mexico and in parts of the United States, specifically New Mexico and Texas.

About the Bartlett Daisy

The Bartlett daisy is a special plant. It is the only species in its group, which is called a monotypic genus. This means it's unique! It's a small plant, but it has pretty flowers.

What Does It Look Like?

This plant is an annual herb. This means it grows, flowers, and dies within one year. It can grow up to about 25 centimeters (about 10 inches) tall. Its stems stand upright and branch out near the bottom.

Most of the leaves grow close to the ground, near the base of the stems. Their shapes can be different. Some leaves might even have three parts, like a clover. The edges of the leaves are often serrated, which means they have small, saw-like teeth.

The plant has a single flower head. This head looks like one big flower, but it's actually made of many tiny flowers. It usually has 5 to 13 yellow ray florets. These are the petal-like parts around the edge. In the center, there can be up to 90 disc florets. These small flowers are yellow, and sometimes they have a purple tint.

After the flower blooms, it produces a fruit. This fruit is called a cypsela. It can be over a centimeter long. It also has a pappus, which are like bristles or hairs. These bristles help the fruit fly away in the wind, spreading the seeds.

Where Does It Grow?

The Bartlett daisy likes to grow in certain places. You can find it in grasslands. These are open areas covered in grass. It also grows in places called playas. Playas are flat, dry lakebeds that sometimes fill with water after rain.

This plant usually flowers during the summer and fall seasons. It especially blooms well after it rains.
