Baseball Joe is the exciting story of a young baseball hero named Joe Matson. These books were written by Howard R. Garis under the pen name "Lester Chadwick." The series follows Joe's amazing journey from playing baseball in high school, through his college days at Yale University, and finally to becoming a successful professional baseball star.

The "Baseball Joe" series was created by the Stratemeyer Syndicate and published by Cupples & Leon. Some people believe that Edward Stratemeyer wrote some of the books. Other sources say that John W. Duffield wrote the last nine books in the series.

Joe Matson's Baseball Journey

Joe Matson started playing baseball when he was very young. From that moment on, baseball was his passion! As he played on different school teams, rival players sometimes felt jealous. They tried to cause trouble for him, especially when he reached high school and college. These rivals would try various tricks, like trying to get him into trouble or make him look bad. However, the people causing problems were usually discovered.

Early Days and College

Joe's mother, whom he called "Momsey," really wanted him to go to college. So, Joe went to Yale. His mother hoped he would become a pastor, but Joe's main reason for going to Yale was to play baseball. He was very talented!

Becoming a Pro Player

A baseball scout noticed Joe's skills, and he was soon picked to play in the minor leagues. After just one year, he moved up to the major leagues! Even in the big leagues, rivals still tried to cause him problems. Joe often figured out who was behind the trouble. He eventually became an incredible pitcher and hitter. He even became the captain of the New York Giants, which is now the San Francisco Giants team.

Joe's Family and Friends

Baseball Joe has a sister named Clara. She falls in love and marries Jim, who is Joe's best friend. Joe's mother, "Momsey," initially wished Joe had different dreams than just playing baseball. However, she changed her mind when she saw how successful and well-paid Joe became as a baseball player. Joe's father is an inventor who creates machines for farming. Joe himself is married to a woman named Mabel.
