What Was the Show About?
This version of Swap Shop was broadcast live. This means it was shown on TV as it happened! The show was packed with exciting games and funny comedy sketches. A big part of the show was the "swap shop" itself. Kids in the studio audience could bring items to trade with others. Unlike the older show, this new version often featured "gungings." This is where people taking part in games would get covered in green slime! Three series of the show were made. In the third series, the name changed to Basil and Barney's Swap Shop.
Games and Fun
The show had many different games. Sometimes, a spin-off show called Basil's Game Show would air. This show only featured games and comedy from the main Saturday broadcast. It did not include the swaps or interviews with famous people.
Dunk Beds Game
"Dunk Beds" was a popular game on the show. In this game, one team member had to push a bed along a track. The further the bed went, the more points they scored. But if they pushed too hard, the bed would fall into a pool of green gunge!
A famous person who played "Dunk Beds" was George Sampson. He was a contestant before he became well-known on Britain's Got Talent. Quincy Washington, who won BBC's Election (CBBC), also competed against George Sampson. The game returned for series two. It was called "Dunk Beds: Dunk Harder." This time, contestants pushed a bunk bed.
