Bass Rock is a small, bare rock located in Ipswich, Massachusetts, USA. It sits right between Plum Island Sound and Ipswich Bay. This rock is a notable landmark in the coastal waters of Massachusetts.

About Bass Rock

Bass Rock is a tiny piece of land that sticks out of the water. It is found just south of Sandy Point. This point is part of the Sand Point State Reserve on Plum Island. The rock is also northeast of a neighborhood called Little Neck, which is on Great Neck. Even though it's small, Bass Rock is an important natural feature in this area.

Why is it called Bass Rock?

The name Bass Rock comes from a popular type of fish. These fish are called Striped Bass. Striped Bass love to swim in the waters around this rock. They are often found there during the warmer months, usually from May through October. Because these fish are so common in the area, people decided to name the rock after them. This makes the spot well-known among people who enjoy fishing.
