Bassella is a small town, also called a municipality, in the comarca (a type of region) called Alt Urgell. It is located in Catalonia, Spain. The main village of Bassella is one of nine smaller settlements that make up this municipality.
You can find Bassella where the Segre river meets the Salada river. It's also where important old trade routes used to cross. One route came from Solsona and the salt mines of Cardona. The other connected Lleida and La Seu d'Urgell. Today, these are modern roads. The main office for the town, called the ajuntament (town hall), is in a place called Castellnou de Bassella.
The municipality of Bassella stretches across both sides of the Segre river. A large part of the land has been covered by water due to the building of the Rialb reservoir. Bassella also includes a small separate piece of land called an exclave named Sant Mer, which is inside another municipality called Pinell de Solsonès.
