History of Batemantown

Batemantown got its start when a post office was opened there in 1897. Having a post office was a very important step for any community back then, as it helped people send and receive mail, which was vital for communication and business. This post office served the area for a few years before closing in 1903.

The community was named after the Bateman family, who were among the first settlers in the area. The Bateman family moved to this part of Ohio from Vermont around the year 1815. They played a significant role in the early development of the community, which is why the place was named in their honor.
