Battle of Buceo facts for kids
The Battle of Buceo was a very important sea battle. It happened from May 14 to 17, 1814. This battle was part of the Argentine War of Independence. It was fought between ships from Argentina, led by Admiral William Brown, and ships from Spain, led by Admiral Sierra. The battle took place near the coast of Montevideo, which is now in Uruguay.

What Happened in the Battle of Buceo?
The battle ended with a big win for Argentina. On May 17, five Spanish ships were burned. Two more Spanish ships were captured. Later, other Spanish ships gave up, and about 500 Spanish sailors were taken as prisoners. The Argentine forces had very few losses, with only four men killed and one ship lost. Because of this important victory, William Brown was promoted to admiral.
