The Battle of Rogersville was a fight that happened in and near Rogersville, Tennessee. It took place on the morning of November 6, 1863. This battle was part of the American Civil War.
It was fought between soldiers from the United States Army (also called the Union) and the Confederate States Army. The Union soldiers were from the 3rd Brigade, 4th Cavalry Division. The Confederate soldiers were led by Brigadier General William E. Jones. They included Jones' Brigade, the 2nd Cavalry Brigade, and the 8th Virginia Cavalry.
The Union forces were surprised by the attack. Because of this surprise, the Confederates won the battle. They were able to take back Rogersville. They also captured many important supplies from the town's railroad storage buildings.
