The Battle of Rueda was a major battle that took place in 981. It was part of the Reconquista, a long period in Spanish history. During the Reconquista, Christian kingdoms in northern Spain worked to take back control of lands from Muslim rulers in the south. In this battle, Muslim forces from Al-Andalus fought against a group of Christian kingdoms.
Historians are still discussing exactly where the battle happened. Some believe it was fought in Rueda, in the area of Valladolid. Others think it was in Roa, in Burgos. Roa was an important fortress that had been settled again in 912.
