Who Fought in the Battle?
The United States Army was led by Brigadier general Alfred Sully. He was a high-ranking officer. His soldiers faced warriors from the Lakota, Yanktonai, and Dakota tribes. These tribes were defending their lands and way of life.
Where Did the Battle Happen?
The battle took place in a tough area known as the Badlands. This region has very rough and broken land. It is full of steep hills, deep canyons, and strange rock formations. This made it hard for both sides to move around and fight. Today, this area is in western North Dakota.
What Were the Results of the Battle?
General Alfred Sully thought about 100 Native American warriors were killed during the battle. However, this number might have been too high because it was hard to see clearly. On the side of the US soldiers, only 3 were killed. Another 10 soldiers were wounded, meaning they were hurt but survived.
