Discovering Baumberg's Past
Baumberg has an interesting history, especially when it comes to its name.
How Baumberg Got Its Name
The area we now call Baumberg had a different name long ago.
From Arff to Baumberg
- In 1877, the place was first named Arff.
- It was named after Frederic Danieh Arff.
- He was an early settler who arrived in this area in 1856.
- The South Pacific Coast Railroad gave it this name.
A New Name for a New Era
- Later, in 1887, the Southern Pacific Railroad bought out the South Pacific Coast Railroad.
- When this happened, they changed the name of the community.
- The new name became Baumberg.
- This name came from a local business called "Baumberger's Salt Works."
- This shows how important local industries were in naming places back then!
