Bayano Lake is a large, man-made lake in Panama. It is located in the eastern part of Panamá Province. This lake was created in 1976 when the Bayano River was blocked by a dam.

A dam is a barrier built across a river to hold back water. The area behind the dam then fills with water, forming a reservoir. Bayano Lake is the second largest lake in Panama by surface area. Only Lake Gatun is bigger.

Why is it called Bayano Lake?

The lake and the river are named after a very important historical figure. His name was Bayano. He was a leader in the 16th century who fought for freedom in Panama. He led a major uprising against unfair treatment.

What else is near Bayano Lake?

On the south side of Bayano Lake, you can find the Bayano Caves. These caves are a natural wonder. They are a popular spot for explorers and nature lovers.
