Bea's Early Life and School
Bea de Leon went to St. Paul College, Pasig for grade school. Later, she attended Saint Pedro Poveda College for high school. She was the captain of her high school girls' volleyball team. Bea also won the Athlete of the Year award for volleyball when she graduated from Poveda.
She studied at Ateneo de Manila University for college. Bea was a "Dean's lister," meaning she did very well in her studies. She earned a degree in AB Management Economics. Bea was also a finalist for the Ambrosio Padilla Athlete of the Year Award. This award recognizes college athletes who are excellent in both sports and academics.
In 2023, she earned her Masters degree in Sustainability Management from Ateneo. An academic scholarship was also created at Ateneo in her name.
Bea's College Volleyball Journey
Bea's parents and brother all graduated from De La Salle University. This university has a big rivalry with Ateneo. Bea first thought about going to La Salle. But she chose Ateneo because her favorite course was not available at La Salle. Also, Ateneo was closer to her home. Famous Ateneo players like Alyssa Valdez and Denden Lazaro also helped her decide to join Ateneo.
In her first game in UAAP Season 77, Bea was a starting player for the Ateneo Lady Eagles. She was a 5'11 middle blocker. She quickly became a strong player for her team. She was known for her powerful quick hits and blocks. Bea was a top contender for the Rookie of the Year Award. She averaged 9 points per game.
During the middle of the season, Bea injured her right index finger. This made her miss three games. But she came back for the last game of the elimination round. She helped her team reach the finals. She scored 11 points against their rival, the De La Salle Lady Spikers. Her team won the championship and had a perfect 16–0 record that season.
In her first year at Ateneo, Bea was chosen for the National Team. She represented the Philippines in the 2015 SEA Games in Singapore. In the Shakey's V-League Season 12, Bea won the 2nd Best Middle Blocker Award.
After Ateneo lost in UAAP Season 78, UAAP Season 79, and UAAP Season 80, Bea was not sure if she would play her final year. In 2018, she signed with the Foton Tornadoes to start her semi-professional career. She played alongside Jaja Santiago and Dindin Santiago. After thinking about it for two months, Bea decided to play her last season in the UAAP. She became a joint team captain with Maddie Madayag for UAAP Season 81. With her leadership, Ateneo won their third championship. They beat the UST Golden Tigresses. Bea was named the Finals MVP for her great performance.
Bea also represented Ateneo in the UAAP beach volleyball championships in 2017.
