Alyssa Caymo Valdez (born June 29, 1993) is a famous Filipino volleyball player. She is known for her powerful spikes and amazing skills on the court. Alyssa currently plays for the Creamline Cool Smashers team.
She was a star player for the Ateneo de Manila University's college volleyball team, the Lady Eagles. She helped them win many championships and brought a lot of honor to her university. Alyssa has also played for the Philippine national team. Her talent has even taken her to play in other countries like Thailand and Taiwan.

Early Life and Volleyball Start
Alyssa Valdez grew up in San Juan, Batangas, Philippines. Her dad, Ruel, worked for a car company, and her mom, Pablita, was a school teacher. Alyssa is the only girl among four children.
She started playing volleyball when she was just 12 years old. She learned the game by playing with her two older brothers in elementary school. This early start helped her develop her amazing volleyball skills.
High School Volleyball Career
Because of her growing skills, Alyssa was chosen to play in the Southern Tagalog Calabarzon Athletic Association (STCAA). This is a big sports event for students in the Calabarzon region. There, she was noticed by the University of Santo Tomas (UST). They asked her to join their high school volleyball team, the UST Tigress Cubs.
In her first year at UST, she was picked to be part of the National Capital Region (NCR) team for the Palarong Pambansa. This is a national sports competition for students across the Philippines. Alyssa was the top high school player for UST. She led her team to win three championships in the UAAP (Seasons 70–72) and one in the National Shakey's Girls' Volleyball League in 2009. She was also named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) three times in the UAAP and once in the Shakey's Girls' Volleyball League.
College Volleyball Journey
Alyssa's volleyball career became even bigger when she went to college. She won many individual awards and helped her team, the Ateneo Lady Eagles, win several championships. She was recognized as the UAAP's Best Scorer four times, Best Server three times, Season MVP three times, and Finals MVP once.
Starting at Ateneo (2010–2012)
When Alyssa first joined Ateneo, she had to wait one year before playing in the UAAP. This was because she transferred from another UAAP school (UST). During this time, she played in an international beach volleyball tournament in China. She also joined the Lady Eagles as a guest player in some Shakey's V-League tournaments.
In the Shakey's V-League Season 8 1st Conference, Alyssa won her first V-League gold medal. Her team beat the Adamson Lady Falcons in the finals. After her waiting period, Alyssa officially joined the Lady Eagles in UAAP Season 74. She helped her team reach the Finals, but they finished second. In beach volleyball, her team also placed second.
In the 1st Conference of Shakey's V-League Season 9, she earned her second V-League gold medal. She was also named the Finals MVP after Ateneo defended their title against the UST Tigresses.
Record-Breaking Seasons (2012–2014)
In UAAP Season 75, Alyssa broke the record for the most points scored in a UAAP women's volleyball game. She scored an amazing 35 points in one game! This was a new record for the league. She was named the Best Scorer of the season. Her scoring helped Ateneo reach the Finals again, but they were runners-up.
In UAAP Season 76, Alyssa became the team captain for Ateneo's indoor volleyball team. She won four awards in one UAAP season, which was a first for a female volleyball player! She was named Best Scorer, Best Server, Season MVP, and Finals MVP. Her team also won the championship, beating their rivals, the DLSU Lady Spikers.
Alyssa also set a record in the Shakey's V-League 11th Season Open Conference. She scored a total of 342 points, which was the most points ever scored in that conference.
Dominating the UAAP (2014–2016)
In UAAP Season 77, Alyssa led the Ateneo team to defend their championship title. They had a perfect season, winning all 16 games! She was again awarded the Season MVP, Best Server, and Best Scorer.
Alyssa also represented the Philippines in the 2014 ASEAN University Games in Indonesia, where her team won a bronze medal. This was her first international medal. In 2015, she returned to beach volleyball and her team finished second in the UAAP. She also won another bronze medal with Ateneo in the 2016 ASEAN University Games.
Professional Club Career
After her college career, Alyssa continued to play volleyball professionally for various clubs.
Early Club Teams
Alyssa joined the Smart-Maynilad Net Spikers in 2013. She later played for the PLDT Home Ultera Ultra Fast Hitters. With PLDT, she won two championships in the Shakey's V-League in 2015 and was named MVP twice.
In 2016, she played for the BaliPure Purest Water Defenders and helped them win third place. She then moved to the Bureau of Customs Transformers. Her team reached the finals but finished as runners-up. Alyssa won her third MVP award in the Shakey's V-League Reinforced Conference.
Playing Abroad
In late 2016, Alyssa signed with a Thai club team called 3BB Nakornnont. She debuted for them in February 2017. Later in 2017, she also played for Attack Line, a club team in Taiwan.
Creamline Cool Smashers (2017–Present)
In 2017, Alyssa joined the Creamline Cool Smashers, a new team in the Premier Volleyball League. She quickly became a key player for them. She has won multiple MVP awards and Best Outside Hitter awards with Creamline. She has led the team to many championships, including several Premier Volleyball League titles in 2018, 2019, 2022, 2023, and 2024.
International Play
Alyssa has proudly represented the Philippines at different levels.
Youth and Senior Teams
In 2008, she led the Youth 16-Under Girls' Philippine National Volleyball Team in the 2008 Asian Youth Girls Volleyball Championship. In 2013, she became a member of the senior Philippine National Team. She was even chosen as the team captain for the Philippine team in the 2015 Asian Women's U23 Volleyball Championship.
Alyssa was also part of the Philippine team that won third place in the 2014 FIVB Southeast Asian Zone Qualifier. In the 2015 Southeast Asian Games, she had the honor of carrying the Philippine flag during the opening parade in Singapore.
Other Roles and Appearances
Beyond playing, Alyssa has taken on other important roles. In 2018, she became the president of the Spikers' Turf, a men's volleyball league.
She has also appeared in popular media. She was part of the online reality show Phenoms. In 2017, she appeared in the film Ang Panday. Alyssa is very popular on social media, with over a million followers on Instagram and Twitter.
In October 2021, Alyssa joined the reality TV show Pinoy Big Brother as a celebrity housemate. She had previously been a guest on the show in 2019 to teach volleyball. She was one of the top housemates in the Celebrity Edition in January 2022, but she had to leave the show early to prepare for the 2021 Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam.
