Beal is a small, quiet place in Knox County, Indiana. It's known as an "unincorporated community." This means it's a group of homes and buildings that isn't officially a town or city with its own local government. Instead, it's part of a larger area called Vincennes Township.
What is an Unincorporated Community?
An unincorporated community is like a neighborhood that doesn't have its own mayor or town council. It's still a community where people live. However, it gets its services, like roads and police, from the larger county or township it's in.
A Look Back in Time
Beal once had its very own post office! This post office first opened its doors in the year 1891. People living in Beal could send and receive their mail right there. However, the post office closed down in 1901. This means it was open for about 10 years.
