Beau's Early Rugby League Days
Beau Champion started playing rugby league as a junior in South Sydney. He played for local teams like the South Eastern Seagulls and La Perouse Panthers. This is where he first learned the game and showed his talent.
Playing in the NRL
First Time with South Sydney (2005–2010)
Beau made his first-grade debut in 2005. He played for the South Sydney Rabbitohs against the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks. In his first few years, he played 70 games for South Sydney. He scored 33 tries and kicked 5 goals, which is a great start for a young player!
Later, in 2010, it was announced that his cousin, Greg Inglis, might join South Sydney. Beau, along with famous actor and Souths owner Russell Crowe, helped convince Inglis to move to the club.
Moving to Melbourne (2011)
When Greg Inglis officially joined South Sydney, Beau had to leave. This was because of the team's salary cap rules, which limit how much money a club can spend on players. Beau signed a three-year deal with the Melbourne Storm. It was a bit funny because he ended up taking the spot that his cousin Greg Inglis had left!
Beau played 16 games for the Melbourne Storm in 2011. He scored 8 tries and helped the team win the minor premiership. This means they finished first on the ladder before the finals. He even scored a try in their preliminary final game.
Time with Gold Coast (2012)
After just one year with Melbourne, Beau signed with the Gold Coast Titans. However, 2012 was a tough year for him because of injuries. He only played in 9 games for the Titans, scoring 4 tries.
Back to South Sydney (2013–2014)
In 2013, Beau Champion returned to his home club, the South Sydney Rabbitohs. He signed a two-year deal. The Gold Coast Titans understood his wish to go back to where he felt most at home. His coach at the Titans, John Cartwright, said that players play their best when they are happy. He wished Beau all the best.
Final Season with Parramatta (2015)
In 2015, Beau signed a one-year deal with the Parramatta Eels. Sadly, his career ended that year. He announced his retirement from rugby league in August 2015. This was because he couldn't recover from a serious knee injury he got earlier in the season.
