Exploring the Beaumaris Food Festival
This festival was a very important event for Beaumaris. It attracted more than 100 different businesses and food makers. Adults paid a small fee to enter, but children could get in for free! The festival also offered special deals, like half-price entry to Beaumaris Castle, Beaumaris Gaol (an old jail), and the Courthouse.
The main part of the festival was held on the town green. This green space is right next to the famous Beaumaris Castle and the Menai Strait. From there, visitors could even see the beautiful mountain of Snowdon.
Food tents and street food stalls were set up all over the town. Beaumaris is surrounded by old town walls, which made the festival feel very special. Many places in town joined in, including Beaumaris Pier, Canolfan Beaumaris, and the Town Hall.
What the Festival Offered
The main goal of the Beaumaris Food Festival was to raise money for good causes in the local area. It focused on all kinds of food and drink. You could find local Welsh products, as well as foods from other parts of the UK and around the world.
The festival also featured cooking shows by local and famous chefs. Kids could even join in special cooking classes! There were also storytelling sessions and fun activities. Live music and choirs performed, and there was a "talk tent." Bangor University organized interesting talks about art, film, music, and books. Other talks covered history, nature, and how to be more sustainable. Sometimes, there were even Medieval reenactments in the castle grounds.
Visitors could find free parking and special park-and-ride buses to get to the festival easily.
How the Festival Was Supported
Anglesey Events Ltd, a special company, organized and ran the festival. The Welsh Government helped support the festival through a special grant program.
Since it started in 2013, the festival raised a lot of money – hundreds of thousands of pounds! This money helped places like Canolfan Beaumaris Leisure Centre. This center is a social enterprise and community centre in Beaumaris. It offers classes and activities for everyone in the area. Local food producers also said the festival was great for their businesses. It let them talk directly to customers and helped more people learn about their products.
