Beaver Dam is a small community in Bowie County, Texas. It is an unincorporated community, which means it does not have its own local government like a city does. This quiet place is located in the northeastern part of the U.S. state of Texas. In 2000, about 55 people lived there. It is part of the larger Texarkana metropolitan area.
History of Beaver Dam
Beaver Dam got its name from a very large beaver dam found at a nearby creek. In 1933, this community was mainly made up of Black residents. It had one business and about 10 people living there, but it did not have its own post office.
The number of people living in Beaver Dam grew over time. By the 1940s and 1950s, the population increased to 25. In the 1980s, the community had a church, a cemetery, and several scattered homes. By the year 2000, the population had reached 55 residents.
On April 2–3, 1982, a very strong tornado, known as an F3 tornado, passed through the community. This powerful storm unfortunately destroyed five homes in Beaver Dam.
Where is Beaver Dam?
Beaver Dam is located in the northeastern part of Bowie County, Texas. It is about 14 mi (23 km) northwest of DeKalb.
The community is also found about 22 mi (35 km) northeast of Clarksville. It is 19 mi (31 km) northwest of New Boston. Beaver Dam is also about 45 mi (72 km) west of Texarkana. You can find it just off Texas State Highway 59, where it meets two smaller rural roads.
