You can find this state park right on the border between Nevada and Utah. It's about 25 miles (40 km) east of a town called Caliente. It's a great place to explore nature and enjoy outdoor activities.

Discovering Beaver Dam State Park's Past

Beaver Dam State Park has a long and interesting history. It was one of the very first state parks in Nevada. The park system was created by the Nevada Legislature way back in 1935.

Early Days and Building Efforts

From 1934 to 1936, a group called the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) helped build the park. The CCC was a program that put young men to work during the Great Depression. They built places for camping and picnicking at Beaver Dam State Park.

Sadly, big floods later in the 1930s washed away many of these early structures. Nature can be powerful!

The Story of Schroeder Reservoir

In 1961, a lake called Schroeder Reservoir was created. This happened when an earthen dam was built across the Beaver Dam Wash. An earthen dam is a large wall made of compacted dirt and rocks.

However, another flood in 2005 caused a lot of damage. Schroeder Lake was washed out, and the dam was not rebuilt. In 2009, the reservoir area was completely drained. This allowed Beaver Dam Wash to return to its natural, free-flowing state.
