Belchior (born Antônio Carlos Belchior, October 26, 1946 – April 30, 2017) was a famous Brazilian singer and songwriter. He was one of the first artists from the northeast part of Brazil to become very popular. This happened in the early 1970s, and his music was part of the MPB style, which means "Brazilian popular music."
His 1976 album, Alucinação (which means "Hallucination"), is seen by many as one of the most important music albums ever released in Brazil. In 2008, a magazine called Rolling Stone Brasil listed Belchior as one of the greatest artists in Brazilian music history. They also named him one of the biggest voices in Brazilian music.
Biography
Antônio Carlos Belchior was born in Sobral, a city in Ceará, Brazil. His birthday was October 26, 1946.
In 1972, a famous singer named Elis Regina recorded one of his songs called "Mucuripe." He wrote this song with Fagner. Later, another well-known singer, Roberto Carlos, also recorded it.
For a few years, Belchior chose to live a very private life. In 2009, a TV show reported that he had been living quietly in a small village in Uruguay with his second wife. He said he was "resting, composing, and thinking about life." He was also working on translating a famous book called Divine Comedy by Dante Alighieri into Portuguese.
Belchior passed away on April 30, 2017, when he was 70 years old. He died from a heart attack. After his death, the governor of Ceará, Camilo Santana, announced three days of official mourning to honor him.
