Belmont is a suburb located in Lower Hutt, a city north of Wellington in the North Island of New Zealand. It sits on the west side of the Hutt River, right along State Highway 2 (SH 2). This highway is the main road connecting Wellington and Hutt. Belmont is also directly across the river from the main part of Lower Hutt city.

Belmont is known for its beautiful natural surroundings. It borders the Belmont Regional Park, which means there's lots of native bush (forest) and amazing views. In the early 1900s, the Belmont Picnic Grounds were a very popular spot for family outings and fun gatherings. Different people ran these grounds over the years, making them a special place for the community.

You can also find a special substation here for GNS Science, which is a New Zealand research institute. This site is chosen because the ground is very strong and rocky. The old Belmont Railway Station, New Zealand used to serve the area, but it closed down in 1954.
