The show follows a young, dedicated surgeon named Ben Casey. He works at County General Hospital. Ben Casey is very good at his job. He always tries to do what is right for his patients.
Meet the Main Characters
Ben Casey's first mentor was Doctor David Zorba. Actor Sam Jaffe played Dr. Zorba. Dr. Zorba helped Ben learn and grow as a surgeon. In 1965, Sam Jaffe left the show.
Another actor, Franchot Tone, joined the cast. He played Doctor Daniel Niles Freeland. Dr. Freeland became the new Chief of Surgery. He also became a mentor to Ben Casey.
Interesting Storylines
As the show continued, it started telling longer stories. Some stories lasted for more than one episode. In one storyline, Ben Casey met a patient. She had been in a coma for thirteen years. Ben Casey helped her wake up. He also developed a special connection with her.
The Return of Ben Casey
Years after the TV show ended, a new movie was made. It was called The Return of Ben Casey. This movie came out in 1988. Vince Edwards played Ben Casey again. The movie was shown on TV. However, the major TV networks did not decide to bring the series back.
