Ben Kinchlow (born December 27, 1936 – died July 18, 2019) was an American evangelist. He was well-known for co-hosting a TV show called The 700 Club. He hosted this show from 1975 to 1988 and again from 1992 to 1996. Ben Kinchlow also hosted other shows on the Christian Broadcasting Network. These included Straight Talk and a radio show named Taking It to the Streets.
Ben Kinchlow's Early Life and Schooling
Ben Kinchlow was born and grew up in Uvalde, Texas. His father was a Methodist minister. Ben went to the Nicolas School for his early education in the 1940s. This school was a small building in the East Uvalde city park. It was the last school in the city that was only for African-American students. It operated this way from 1938 until 1955.
After school, he joined the United States Air Force. He served in the Air Force for thirteen years. In the 1970s, he rediscovered Christianity. Before this, he was a Black Nationalist and was influenced by Malcolm X. He earned his MBA degree. Soon after, in 1971, he became a minister in the African Methodist Episcopal Church.
Ben Kinchlow's Career in Television
Ben Kinchlow first appeared as a guest on The 700 Club. He spoke about people becoming Christians through the center. He was then asked to host the show while Pat Robertson was away. In 1975, he became the Director of Counseling for The 700 Club.
In 1982, he became a co-host of The 700 Club. He also became the vice-president for domestic ministries at the Christian Broadcasting Network. By 1985, he was promoted to executive vice-president. He left CBN and The 700 Club in 1996. He wanted to start his own independent ministry.
Kinchlow also founded an organization called Americans for Israel. He was also the co-host of a radio show called Front Page Jerusalem. In 2015, he became President and Co-Founder of Brio TV. This was a streaming service that offered positive, faith-based content. He hosted its main show, Ben Kinchlow's Real America. He also wrote comments for WND, a conservative online newspaper.
Personal Life and Passing
Ben Kinchlow passed away on Thursday, July 18, 2019. He was 82 years old.
