Ben Reid (born 29 April 1989) is a former Australian rules footballer. He played for the Collingwood Magpies in the Australian Football League (AFL). Ben was known for being a strong player in both defense and attack. He played 152 games and kicked 73 goals during his career.

About Ben Reid's Life
Ben Reid grew up in Wangaratta, Victoria. He went to Galen Catholic College. His dad, Bruce Reid, also played AFL football. He played for the Footscray and Carlton clubs. Ben's younger brother, Sam Reid, plays for the Sydney Swans. This makes them a football family!
Ben Reid's AFL Journey
Ben Reid was picked by Collingwood in the 2006 AFL Draft. He was the eighth player chosen overall. He got the number 20 jersey. This jersey was previously worn by Chris Tarrant.
Starting His Career
Ben made his first AFL game for Collingwood in 2007. He was only 18 years old. At that time, he was the youngest player in the entire AFL. He started as a forward player. But he later became known as one of the best defenders. Before joining Collingwood, he played for other teams. These included the Murray Bushrangers and Wangaratta Rovers.
His Big Year in 2010
Before 2010, Ben had only played a few games. But 2010 was his "breakout" year. He played 21 games that season. In the middle of the year, he was nominated for the AFL Rising Star award. This award is for the best young player.
Ben played in both Grand Finals against St Kilda. In the second Grand Final game, he hurt his leg. But he kept playing to finish the match. It was later found that he had played with a broken bone in his leg! Collingwood won the Grand Final that year.
All-Australian Recognition in 2011
Ben continued to play very well in 2011. His great performance earned him a spot in the 2011 All-Australian team. This team is made up of the best players from across the league. He was chosen as the best player in the centre half-back position. He also finished seventh in Collingwood's best and fairest award. This award is called the Copeland Trophy.
Saying Goodbye to AFL
Ben Reid announced he was retiring from AFL football in late 2020. He had faced many injuries. He only played two games in his final season.
