Bengtsfors Municipality (Bengtsfors kommun) is a local government area in western Sweden. It is part of Västra Götaland County. The main town, or "seat," of the municipality is Bengtsfors.
The municipality as we know it today was created in 1971. This happened when the old market town of Bengtsfors joined together with three other smaller areas: Bäckefors, Lelång, and Steneby. This joining of areas is called an amalgamation.

Exploring Bengtsfors Municipality
Bengtsfors Municipality is a great place for outdoor adventures. It has many beautiful lakes and streams. This makes it perfect for activities like canoeing, fishing, and swimming.
Waterways and Canals
A big part of the municipality's charm comes from its water. The famous Dalsland Canal runs through Bengtsfors. This canal connects many lakes and is a popular route for boats and canoes.
Every year, a special canoeing race takes place here. It's called Dalslands Kanot Marathon+ (DKM+). This race is very long, stretching for 55 kilometers (about 34 miles). It goes through many of the municipality's waterways and is one of Sweden's biggest canoeing events.
