Benjaberring is a small community in Western Australia. It is found in an area called the Wheatbelt. This region is famous for growing lots of wheat and other crops. The town's name comes from an Aboriginal word. It was the name of a water source nearby. The area first appeared on maps in 1846. The town site was officially started in 1910. Its spelling was changed in 1911. This was done to make sure everyone said it correctly.
A Hub for Wheat
In the 1920s, Benjaberring became important for wheat farming. Farmers in the area grew a lot of wheat. Records show that over 2,000 tons of wheat were produced each year. This happened between 1924 and 1926. This large amount of grain needed a way to be stored and moved.
The Start of CBH Group
In 1932, Benjaberring played a big role in Australian farming. It became a railway siding. A railway siding is a short track next to a main railway line. It allows trains to stop and load or unload goods. Benjaberring was also one of the first five places to have a bulk grain receival point.
These points were special places where farmers could bring their grain. The grain was then stored in large bins. This was the beginning of an important organisation. It was called the Cooperative Bulk Handling organisation. Today, it is known as the CBH Group. The CBH Group helps farmers store and transport their grain. It is a very large and important company in Western Australia.
