Sir Bennet Hoskyns, 1st Baronet (1609–1680) was an important English politician. He served in the House of Commons, which is like the main law-making body in England, at different times between 1640 and 1659. He was also given the special title of Baronet.

Early Life and Family
Bennet Hoskyns was born in 1609. His father was John Hoskyns, who was a poet, a lawyer, and also a politician. His mother was Benedicta Moyle. When his father passed away in 1638, Bennet inherited a large property called Moorhampton, which was near Hereford.

Sir Bennet Hoskyns was elected to Parliament several times.
Starting His Political Journey
In April 1640, he was chosen to be a Member of Parliament (MP) for a place called Wendover. This was for a short meeting of Parliament known as the Short Parliament.
During the Civil War Era
Later, in 1645, he was elected as an MP for Hereford in the Long Parliament. However, his time in Parliament was interrupted for a while. After this, he was re-elected as an MP for Hereford in 1654 for the First Protectorate Parliament. He then represented Herefordshire in both the Second Protectorate Parliament in 1656 and the Third Protectorate Parliament in 1659.
Later Life and Achievements
Around 1660, after the Civil War ended, Sir Bennet Hoskyns bought a property called Harewood Park in Herefordshire. In 1676, he was given the special title of a baronet. This means he was the first person in his family to hold this hereditary title, which is passed down through the family.
Sir Bennet Hoskyns passed away in 1680 when he was 71 years old. He was married to Anne Bingley. Their son, John, inherited his father's baronet title and Harewood Park.
