The Monet Bridge at Bennetts Water Gardens

Bennetts Water Gardens is a beautiful garden covering about 8 acres (around 32,000 square meters) in Chickerell, near Weymouth, in southern England. It's famous for its amazing collections of water lilies from all over the world. These lovely flowers bloom from late May until September, making the gardens a colorful place to visit. You can see the water lilies displayed in many different ponds and lakes throughout the garden.

A special part of the garden is a blue Japanese bridge. It was built in 1999 to celebrate 100 years since the famous artist Claude Monet painted his well-known picture, Water Lily Pond 1899. This bridge looks just like the one in Monet's painting!

Discover Bennetts Water Gardens

The Bennett family created this garden, and they still run it today. The land where the garden now sits has a long history. It was once a clay pit, as far back as 1859. People used to dig Oxford Clay by hand from the ground to make bricks.

A Glimpse into History

Today, there's a museum right at the garden that tells the story of this area. It shares details about the local history, including the village of Chickerell, which is even mentioned in the ancient Domesday Book. The museum also teaches about nearby natural wonders like Chesil Beach and The Fleet lagoon.

Special Water Lily Collection

The collection of Nymphaea (which is the scientific name for Water Lily) at Bennetts Water Gardens is very special. It has been officially recognized by Plant Heritage as a National Plant Collection. This means it's a really important collection of plants that helps protect different types of water lilies for the future.
