Playing Career Highlights
Starting at Sochaux
Benoît Pedretti began his football career at FC Sochaux-Montbéliard in 1999. He quickly moved from the youth team to play his first professional match in the same year. Sochaux was in the second division of French football, called Division 2 back then.
In his second season, even though he was young, Pedretti became a key player for Sochaux. He played in almost every game. His efforts helped Sochaux win the Division 2 championship in 2001. This meant they were promoted to the top league, Ligue 1.
During the 2002–03 Ligue 1 season, Pedretti played 35 league games and scored 3 goals. His team also reached the final of the Coupe de la Ligue, a major cup competition. They qualified for European football, playing in the UEFA Cup the next year.
Moving to Marseille and Lyon
In 2004, Pedretti moved to Olympique de Marseille. He played 31 games there, but it was a tough season for the club. Many players and coaches changed, making it hard for him to settle in.
After just one season, he joined Olympique Lyonnais in 2005. Lyon was a very strong team at the time, with many talented midfielders. Pedretti found it hard to get a regular spot in the starting team. He played 21 games in his only season at Lyon and also made his debut in the UEFA Champions League.
Success at Auxerre
In 2006, Pedretti decided to make a fresh start and moved to AJ Auxerre. This move was great for him, as he became a regular player in their midfield for many years. He played in both the UEFA Cup and the UEFA Champions League with Auxerre.
During the 2007–08 season, he became the captain of Auxerre. He continued to play very well, even scoring an important goal against his old team, Marseille, in a cup game.
Pedretti played 170 games for Auxerre over five years. He was a very important player for the team. During this time, he also continued to play for the French national team.
Later Career: Lille, Ajaccio, and Nancy
In 2011, Pedretti joined Lille OSC, who were the league champions at the time. He saw it as a great opportunity with exciting challenges.
On 4 August 2013, he signed a two-year deal with AC Ajaccio. In his second game for Ajaccio, he scored an amazing goal from 20 yards out against PSG. Ajaccio decided not to renew his contract in 2015, making him a free agent.
On 1 August 2015, Pedretti signed with AS Nancy Lorraine. In January 2018, after dealing with some injuries, he announced he was retiring from playing professional football. He then took on a new role as an assistant coach at Nancy.
International Career
Benoît Pedretti made his first appearance for the French national team on 20 November 2002. He came on as a substitute in a 3–0 win against Serbia and Montenegro.
He was part of the French squad that won the FIFA Confederations Cup in 2003. He also played in the Euro 2004, where France reached the quarter-finals. Pedretti played a total of 22 international games for France. His last game was a 2–1 win against Hungary.
