Benoni Orrin Reynolds II (born July 26, 1824 – died January 19, 1911) was an important person in Wisconsin's history. He was a doctor and also served in the government. He was a member of the Wisconsin State Assembly and the Wisconsin State Senate, which are parts of Wisconsin's law-making body.

Early Life and Education

In 1848, Benoni Reynolds married Mary Jane Smith. She was one of Wisconsin's first female doctors. This was quite rare for women at that time!

Benoni himself became a doctor too. He studied medicine at Rush Medical College. He graduated from there in 1851. After finishing his studies, he moved to Ives Grove, Wisconsin in 1854.

A Doctor During the Civil War

During the American Civil War, Benoni Reynolds used his medical skills to help his country. He served as a surgeon in the Union Army. A surgeon is a doctor who performs operations. He was part of the 3rd Wisconsin Volunteer Cavalry Regiment. This means he helped care for soldiers who were injured during the war.

Serving the Public in Politics

After the war, Benoni Reynolds continued to serve the public, but this time in politics. He was elected to the Wisconsin State Assembly in 1876. The State Assembly is where elected representatives make laws for the state.

Later, he became a member of the Wisconsin State Senate. He served in the Senate from 1878 to 1879. The State Senate also helps create and approve laws for Wisconsin.

Besides working at the state level, he also served his local community. He was the Mayor of Geneva, Wisconsin. He held this important position from 1874 to 1876. As mayor, he was the leader of the city government. Benoni Reynolds was a member of the Republican Party.

His Later Years

Benoni Orrin Reynolds II passed away on January 19, 1911. He died in Lake Geneva, Wisconsin. He is remembered for his work as both a doctor and a public servant.
