Bern is a small, unincorporated community in Bear Lake County, Idaho. An "unincorporated community" means it's a place where people live, but it doesn't have its own local government like a city or town. It's located in the southeastern part of Idaho, about four miles away from the town of Montpelier.

History of Bern

The first people settled in Bern in 1873. Later, in 1901, a post office was opened there, which served the community until 1988.

The community was named after Bern, a city in Switzerland. Many of the first settlers who came to this area were from Switzerland, so they chose to name their new home after their original homeland.

In 1909, about 50 people were estimated to live in Bern. By 1960, the population was recorded as 20 people.
