Bernhard Paumgartner (born 14 November 1887 in Vienna; died 27 July 1971 in Salzburg) was an Austrian musician. He was a talented conductor, composer, and musicologist. A musicologist is someone who studies music history and theory.
Paumgartner is well-known for teaching Herbert von Karajan. Karajan later became a very famous conductor himself. Paumgartner taught him composition at the Mozarteum in Salzburg. He quickly saw Karajan's great potential for conducting. Paumgartner also taught another musician named Vittorio Negri.
