Bernina is a special area, also known as a district, located in the canton of Graubünden, Switzerland. Think of a canton like a large region or state within a country. Exploring Bernina's Sub-districts
The Bernina district is divided into two smaller parts called Kreise. You can think of these Kreise as sub-districts. Each of these sub-districts contains just one main town, which shares the same name as the sub-district.
The Brusio Sub-district
One of the sub-districts is named Brusio. The town of Brusio is the only municipality within this area. In December 2004, about 1,222 people called Brusio home. The land area of Brusio is around 46.25 square kilometers.
The Poschiavo Sub-district
The other sub-district is called Poschiavo. The town of Poschiavo is the single municipality in this larger area. As of December 2004, about 3,465 people lived in Poschiavo. This sub-district is quite a bit larger, covering about 190.95 square kilometers.
