Bert is a fun Swedish TV show with 12 episodes. It's based on the popular Bert Diaries books. These books were written by Anders Jacobsson and Sören Olsson. The show first aired in Sweden on SVT (a TV channel). You could watch it every Saturday evening from October 1 to December 17, 1994.
The series was directed by Tomas Alfredson and Svante Kettner. The catchy theme song was "Älskade ängel", sung by Lill-Babs. Another old song, "Är det så här när man är kär" from 1938, also became popular again because of the show.
The story in the TV series is based on the Bert Diaries books. However, just like in the comics, the TV show starts when Bert is in the 6th grade. In the books, he starts in the 5th grade.

Bert on Home Video
After the show aired, fans could watch "Bert" at home. The series was released on VHS tapes and later on DVD.
The first home video release was in 1995. Sandrew film put out the series on six VHS tapes. Each tape had two episodes. Later, in 1999, the series came out on DVD. There were three discs, and each disc had four episodes. Finally, in 2011, the whole series was released on one single DVD disc.
When the show was released for home viewing, some of the music had to be changed. This was because it was very expensive to get the rights to use all the original songs.

Fun Facts About the Series
The "Bert" TV show has some interesting behind-the-scenes details.
The square you often see in the series is actually Central Årsta. This is a real place in Southern Stockholm, Sweden. The apartment buildings shown in the series were filmed in Hagalund.
When the band Heman Hunters performs in the show, Martin Andersson (who plays Bert) pretends to sing. But the voice you hear is actually from Oliver Loftéen, who plays Åke.
A famous singer named Sarah Dawn Finer had a small role in the series.
In the episode "Fina, fina Paulina," the character Lill-Erik was supposed to tame an elk. But since there were no tame elk available, he ended up taming an elephant instead! The elephant had supposedly run away from a circus.
