Beryl Friday, born on January 19, 1994, is a talented Australian netball player. She was part of the amazing Queensland Firebirds teams that won the top netball championships in 2015 and 2016. Beryl has played for many different teams throughout her career, including Queensland Fusion, Territory Storm, and Canberra Giants in Australia. She also played for Team Bath in England and West Coast Fever in Australia's top league.

About Beryl Friday
Beryl Friday is an Aboriginal Australian woman. She comes from a place called Ingham in North Queensland. Her family roots connect her to several Aboriginal nations, including the Kuku Nyungkal people of the Kuku Yalanji nation. She is also a descendant of the Olkolo, the Birri Gubba, and the Kamilaroi nations.
Beryl grew up with four brothers and sisters. Her mother and two older sisters loved netball. When Beryl was eight, they took her to play at the local netball courts.
How Beryl Started Netball
Beryl's talent was noticed early on. While at a netball coaching clinic in Townsville, a famous netball coach named Vicki Wilson saw her play. This led to Beryl getting a special sports scholarship. The scholarship allowed her to attend St Margaret's Anglican Girls' School.
As of 2021, Beryl was studying at Griffith University. She was one of the first students to receive a scholarship named after the famous athlete Ron Clarke.
Beryl's Netball Journey
Beryl has had a long and successful career in netball. She has played for many different teams and won several awards.
Playing for Queensland
Between 2011 and 2015, Beryl played for Queensland in national championships. She played at the under-17, under-19, and under-21 levels. She was a vice-captain for the under-21 team in 2014. The next year, in 2015, she became the captain of the under-21 team.
Winning with Queensland Firebirds
Beryl was a key player for the Queensland Firebirds. She helped them win the ANZ Championship two years in a row. They won in the 2015 season and again in the 2016 season. These were big wins for the team!
Playing in the Australian Netball League
The Australian Netball League is a competition where rising stars play. Beryl played for a few teams in this league.
Queensland Fusion
From 2012 to 2015, Beryl played for Queensland Fusion. In 2014, she helped her team finish as runners-up in the league.
Territory Storm
In 2017, Beryl joined the Territory Storm team. She played for them during that season.
Canberra Giants
Beryl played for the Canberra Giants in 2018. She helped them reach the grand final, where they finished as runners-up. In that final game, Beryl scored 22 goals.
Playing for Team Bath in England
Beryl also played netball in England. She joined Team Bath for the 2018 British Fast5 Netball All-Stars Championship. She also played for them in the 2019 Netball Superleague. On January 5, 2019, she played her first game in the Netball Superleague. Team Bath won that game against Celtic Dragons.
Playing for West Coast Fever
In 2019, Beryl played for West Coast Fever in the Suncorp Super Netball league. She joined as a temporary player. Her first game for Fever was on August 3, 2019.
Playing in Queensland State Leagues
Beryl has also played for several teams in netball competitions within Queensland.
- She played for Carina Leagues Club Tigers in the Queensland Champions Cup. She was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) in both 2013 and 2014. In 2014, she shared the MVP award with another player, Abigail Latu-Meafou. She played for the Tigers again in 2018.
- More recently, Beryl played in the HART Sapphire Series. She played for QUT Wildcats in 2020 and for USQ Ipswich Jets in 2021.
Beyond Playing: Coach and Mentor
Beryl is not just a player; she also helps others in netball.
- In February 2021, Beryl became a founding member of a special committee. This committee, called the Aboriginal And Torres Strait Islander Advisory Committee, helps Netball Queensland. She started it with Sharon Finnan.
- Since February 2021, Beryl has been an ambassador for the Brisbane Broncos' Beyond the Broncos Girls Academy. This program helps young girls.
- In March 2021, Beryl was named an assistant coach. She helped coach Netball Queensland's under-17 team at the Australian National Netball Championships.
