The ANZ Championship was a very important netball league. It was known as one of the best netball competitions in the world! This exciting tournament happened every year from April to July.
Teams played 69 matches over 17 weeks. There were ten teams in total. Five teams came from Australia and five teams came from New Zealand. A company called ANZ Bank helped pay for the competition as its main sponsor.
The ANZ Championship started in 2008. It took the place of two older netball leagues: the Commonwealth Bank Trophy in Australia and the National Bank Cup in New Zealand. Both of these leagues ended in 2007. When the ANZ Championship began, netball players in both countries started to become "semi-professional." This means they earned more money and the sport got more attention from TV and news. The Queensland Firebirds were the champions of the 2011 season. They won by beating the Northern Mystics in the grand final!
