Bessie Clarksone's Life
Bessie Clarksone was likely born in Lanark, Scotland, in 1584. She also passed away in Lanark in 1625. We know about her because of the talks she had with her minister, William Livingstone.
Her Story in a Book
William Livingstone wrote a book about Bessie after she died. This book shared the conversations they had. These talks happened for three and a half years before her death. The book aimed to show how her faith grew stronger over time.
Livingstone was not with Bessie when she died. Other people told him about her final moments. They said she showed "victorious faith" and "raised her eyes to heaven."
Bessie Clarksone died in Lanark in 1625. Her minister's book was published five years later, in 1630. Today, only one copy of this book still exists. It is kept safe at the British Library.
