"Better Be Good to Me" is a famous song by Tina Turner. It was written by Mike Chapman and Holly Knight. This song was released in September 1984. It is part of her very popular solo album called Private Dancer.
Before Tina Turner sang it, the band Spider first recorded this song in 1981. Holly Knight, one of the writers, was a member of Spider. Tina Turner's version became a huge hit! It reached number 5 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart in the US. It also reached number 6 on the Hot Black Singles chart.
In 1985, "Better Be Good to Me" won a special award. It received a Grammy Award for Best Rock Vocal Performance, Female. This was one of four Grammy awards that Tina Turner's Private Dancer album won that year. The song was also featured in the TV show Miami Vice. More recently, it appeared in the 2024 movie IF. In the movie, the main characters sing and dance to the song's music video.
Nicky Chinn is also listed as a writer for the song. He was given credit because of a business agreement he had with Mike Chapman. This happened even though he was not there when the song was created.
